Fast bowler Navdeep Saini and all-rounder Jayant Yadav has been added to the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.

While Navdeep comes in as a back-up for injured Mohammed Siraj, Jayant replaces Washington Sundar in the squad. Off-spinner Washington has been ruled out of the forthcoming 50-over matches after testing positive for Covid-19 during the preparation camp in Bengaluru.

“Sundar was supposed to travel to Cape Town with the ODI members on Wednesday and join the rest of the squad ahead of the ODI series starting January 19. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jayant Yadav as replacement for Sundar,” said BCCI in their official statement.

“The Committee also added fast bowler Navdeep Saini to the ODI squad as a back-up for Mohammed Siraj who is still recovering from his hamstring injury that he sustained in the 2nd Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.”

The ODI series between South Africa and India begins in Paarl on January 19. The second ODI is scheduled at the same venue on January 21, following which both teams will travel to Cape Town for the final encounter.
