South Africa defeated India in the second ODI by seven wickets at Boland Park in Paarl to clinch the series on Friday.

Batting first, India posted 287/6 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to splendid knocks by Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. The star wicketkeeper-batter smashed 85 from 71 deliveries with the help of 12 boundaries, including a couple of sixes.

The Indian captain also shined with the bat, scoring 55 off 79 balls with the help of four boundaries. Apart from Rahul and Pant, Shardul Thakur (40 no), Ravichandran Ashwin (25) and Venkatesh Iyer (22) made crucial contributions down the order to help the tourists reach a competitive total.

In response, the Proteas chased down the target in 48.1 overs. Openers Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and took the game away with a dominating partnership.

Malan and De Kock formed a match-winning stand of 132 runs for the opening wicket before Thakur broke the partnership by removing the Proteas wicketkeeper for 78 off 66 balls.

However, Malan kept on scoring runs and didn’t allow India to capitalise. He stitched a crucial 80-run stand for the second wicket with captain Temba Bavuma (35) before getting out for a well-made 91 from 108 deliveries.
