Cricket is a funny game, they say. And funny things keep happening in this sport. The game between Khulna Tigers (KT) and Minister Group Dhaka (MSD) in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was no different.

In the 15th over of the first innings, a weird and comical dismissal took place. Dhaka all-rounder Andre Russell nudged the ball bowled by KT’s Thisara Perera to third man and ran for a quick single on the last ball of the over. Non-striker Mahmudullah raced towards the other end and got his bat inside the line just before the fielder nailed the direct hit.

The ball then ricocheted down the pitch and straightened on to the stumps at the non-striker’s end in a bit of perfect but mind-bending geometry. Russell was ambling to his crease at that point, expecting the throw to arrive at the striker’s end.

Dhaka appealed for run-outs at both the ends, and while Mahmudullah was safe, Russell had to walk back to the pavilion on 7.

Here’s the video:

The match result eventually favoured the KT, as they registered a five-wicket win in the second game of the tournament. Batting first, MSD posted 183/6 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad scored 42 off 27 balls, while Tamim Iqbal hit a 42-ball 50. Skipper Mahumdullad contributed well with 39 off 20 deliveries, guiding his team to a decent total

In response, KT got over the finish line with five wickets in hand and an over to spare. Rony Talukdar top-scored for his side with a 42-ball 61, while Andre Fletcher made 45 off 23 balls.
