Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Mangeshkar, who’s the Nightingale of India’, tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms and was admitted on January 8. Her condition had improved initially, and was taken off the ventilator, but her health worsened on Saturday.

For her contribution to Indian music, Mangeshkar was conferred with the Bharat Ratna Award – the highest civilian award of the Republic of India. Apart from Bharat Ratna, the iconic singer had also received Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.

As soon as the news of her sad demise spread across, cricket stars took to social media to mourn the loss.

Global superstar Virat Kohli expressed his sadness and paid condolences to Mangeshkar’s family and loved ones.

“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata ji. Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family & the loved ones,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar termed Mangeshkar ‘goddess’ while paying tribute to the legendary singer.

“The goddess is no more. Leaving behind her ‘genius’ for us to keep enriching our lives by. RIP Lata Mangeshkar,” Manjrekar tweeted.

Former India batter Suresh Raina mentioned that Mangeshkar’s legacy would live on forever. He wrote: “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Bharat Ratna Lata Didi. Your legacy will live on forever in our lives and in our hearts. Rest in peace. Om Shanti.”

Former India coach Anil Kumble took to Twitter and wrote: “Deepest condolences on the passing of #LataMangeshkar Her legendary voice will continue to inspire.”

Former Pakistan cricketer and currently the head of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja also paid his condolences.

“Lata Mangeshkar was the epitome of grace, humility and simplicity and therefore greatness.. a lesson for all. Kishore Kumar, and now her death has left me music broken!” Ramiz wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Former West Indies cricketer Daren Ganga wrote: “RIP Lata Mangeshkar, I grew up in the Caribbean listening to your timeless music…your music shall live on!!!”
