Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against India, confirmed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday.
The star leg-spin sensation is yet to recover from Covid-19 infection – for which he had tested positive during the recent five-match T20I leg against Australia.
As per the official statement, Hasaranga returned a positive result when a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was conducted on Wednesday.
“Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in isolation after contracting COVID-19, has once again returned a positive result when a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was conducted on the player yesterday (February 22). A PCR test too confirmed the result,” said SLC in an official statement as quoted by Times of India.
“He was first found to be positive during a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on February 15, 2022. The player was transferred to Melbourne from Canberra and will remain in isolation until he returns a negative PCR Test Report,” the statement added.
The opening game of the three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka will be hosted by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on February 24. The action will then move to Himanchal Pradesh, where HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala will host the remaining two matches on February 26 and 27, respectively.
