Team India defeated West Indies in the thrilling second T20I by eight runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata to lead the three-match series 2-0.

Chasing the massive target of 187, West Indies didn’t have a good start as they lost two wickets for 59 in 8.3 overs. Before the home team could capitalise further, the pair of Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell teamed up to counter-attack.

Both Pooran and Powell smashed their respective half-centuries and took the visitors near the finish line. The duo added 100 runs for the third wicket and almost ended the proceedings before Bhuvneshwar Kumar ruined the Caribbean hopes.

Bhuvi showed all his experience and bowled a sensational penultimate over to pull off a thrilling win for India. The right-armer only conceded 4 runs in the over and also removed set-batter Pooran for a well-made 62.

Although Powell (68 no) stayed on the crease and smashed a couple of sixes in the final over but it wasn’t enough as India won the contest by eight runs.

Earlier, India posted 186/5 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Former skipper Virat Kohli rolled back into form and made a tremendous 52 from 41 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries, including a six.

Although, after losing Kohli, the hosts were struggling at 106/4 in 13.4 overs before Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer joined hands to take their team out of trouble. The pair formed a crucial stand of 76 runs for the fifth wicket to take India to a competitive score.

Pant smashed a brilliant unbeaten knock 52 off 28 balls, including seven fours and a maximum, while Iyer made 33 from 18 deliveries. For the tourists, Roston Chase was the pick of the bowler. The off-spinner picked up a three-wicket haul for 25 in his quota of 4 overs.
