The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega-auctions were recently completed on Sunday, where as many as 204 players were sold, including 67 overseas cricketers.
Many players were re-signed by their old franchises in the bidding event, featuring some big buys like Ishan Kishan (purchased by Mumbai Indians for INR 15.25 crore) and Deepak Chahar (roped in by Chennai Super Kings for INR 14 crore).
Apart from Deepak, the Super Kings also acquired the services of Dwayne Bravo, who was released by the four-time champions along with Deepak and others ahead of the auctions. But there were some players whom CSK wanted to buy back again, but they couldn’t manage to do that. One such cricketer was former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 7 crores.
There is no denial that CSK has an emotional bonding with their players, and it was evident after RCB acquired the services of Du Plessis on Sunday. Upon ending his long journey with the MS Dhoni-led Super Kings, Du Plessis paid his gratitude and shared an emotional post for the Yellow Army.
“I just wanted to do a quick video message to say thank you to Chennai, the fans, the staff, the management and players for it has been a decade with one team,” Du Plessis said in a video shared by CSK on Sunday.
“You create a lot of special memories. I think it’s really important for me to say thank you. I’ve really enjoyed my time a lot. I will really miss everyone there. But as one door closes, a new one opens up, and that comes up with great opportunities. I’m excited to see what the future holds. From me and my family, thank you very much,” the former South African captain added.
