Jason Roy, the key member of England’s World Cup-winning team, has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Roy, who was bought by Gujarat Titans for INR 2 crore during the mega auction last month, is said to have had informed the franchise of his decision last week.

Roy had an impressive outing in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL), scoring 303 runs at an average of 50.5. He proved his worth in the tournament despite playing a limited number of matches.

Notably, Roy and his wife Elle Moore got blessed with their second child last month, and had the English opener opted to play in IPL 2022 he would have stayed away from his family for more than two months. Therefore, he has decided not to participate in the IPL and gave bio-bubble fatigue another reason for skipping the tournament.

This is the second time that Roy has pulled out of the IPL. Earlier, he didn’t feature in the 2020 edition due to personal reasons. The right-handed opener was signed up by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 1.5 crore back then.

Meanwhile, the 15th season of the IPL T20 is scheduled to begin on March 26 and will conclude on May 29.

Gujarat Titans updated squad for IPL 2022:

Hardik Pandya (c), Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Abhinav Sadarangani, Rahul Tewatia, Noor Ahmad, R Sai Kishore, Dominic Drakes, Jayant Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Darshan Nalkande, Yash Dayal, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, Matthew Wade, Gurkeerat Singh, Varun Aaron, B Sai Sudharshan.
