In the eighth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022, New Zealand comprehensively defeated India to register their second triumph in the tournament.

Put to bat first, the hosts posted a competitive total of 260/9 on the board in their allotted 50 overs. Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr shined with the bat and inspired White Ferns to come back after losing both openers at 54 in 11 overs.

The duo formed a crucial stand of 67 runs for the third wicket before Rajeshwari Gayakwad dismissed Kerr for a well made 50 runs off 64 deliveries. Satterthwaite maintained her end alive and kept on scoring runs.

The batting all-rounder was looking set to reach the triple-figure but was undone by Pooja Vastrakar in the 43rd over. Satterthwaite scored 75 from 84 balls with the help of nine boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batter Katey Martin chipped in with a valuable 51-ball 41 to ensure New Zealand breached the 250-run mark.

Vastrakar was the pick of the bowler for India, taking a four-wicket haul while conceding 34 runs in her quota of 10 overs. Gayakwad also bowled well and bagged a couple of scalps for 46 in 10 overs.

In reply, India never looked like they were in the chase except for Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a fighting knock of 71 runs off 63 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. However, Harmanpreet didn’t get enough support as India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Mithali Raj-led side eventually got bundled out for 198, losing the contest by 62 runs.

For New Zealand, Kerr, who smashed a brilliant half-century, contributed with the ball as well, taking a three-fer for 56 in nine overs. Apart from Kerr, Lea Tahuhu also shined as she bagged three wickets while giving away only 17 runs in her quota of 10 overs.
