Riding on Mohammad Shami’s brilliant pace bowling, Gujarat Titans (GT) started their IPL 2022 campaign on a winning note, beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, March 28.

Put in to bat first, LSG managed to post a competitive after some early hiccups. The KL Rahul-led side was reduced to 29/4 inside the powerplay, but Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni scored half-centuries to take their team’s total above the 150-run mark.

In reply, Gujarat too kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, however in the end, Rahul Tewatia held his nerves to take his side over the finish line. Abhinav Manohar also played a crucial knock of unbeaten 15 runs off 7 balls for Hardik Pandya’s team.

Brief Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 158/6 (Deepak Hooda 55, Ayush Badoni 54; Mohammed Shami 3-25) lost to Gujarat Titans 161/5 in 19.4 overs (Rahul Tewatia 40 not out; Dushmantha Chameera 2-22) by 5 wickets.
