Nat Sciver’s unbeaten 148 went in vain as Alyssa Healy’s stunning 170 off 138 balls powered Australia to their seventh Women’s World Cup title with a 71-run win over the defending champions England in Christchurch on Sunday, April 3.

Sciver, who smashed 15 fours and a six in her epic knock, fought till the end alongside No. 10 Charlotte Dean (21 off 24), but they were left to do too much in the summit clash. The duo added a 65-run partnership for the ninth wicket to take the game deep, but with Dean’s dismissal, England’s hopes came to an end.

Earlier, put in to bat first, Healy forged a 160-run stand with fellow opener Rachael Haynes (68 off 93) before sharing 156 runs with left-handed batter Ben Mooney for the second wicket.

Mooney (62 off 47) was sent to bat ahead of skipper Meg Lanning to maintain the left and right combination.

Brief scores: Australia 356/5 in 50 overs (Alyssa Healy 170, Rachael Haynes 68, Beth Mooney 62; Anya Shrubsole 3-46) beat England 285 all out in 43.4 overs (Nat Sciver 148 not out; Jess Jonassen 3-57, Alana King 3-64) by 71 runs.
