Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav is having a golden run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The wrist-spinner has seen a remarkable turnaround in form after getting picked for Delhi Capitals (DC).
Notably, Yadav had witnessed a huge slump in his form while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous two editions of the cash-rich league and was benched for almost the whole of the season.
However, the Chinaman has turned things around, bagging as many as 13 wickets in six games for his new franchise in the fifteenth season. In the recently-concluded match between DC and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday, Yadav was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant performance.
While speaking in the post-match presentation, Yadav credited DC captain Rishabh Pant for his improvement in the lucrative league. The Kanpur-born tweaker explained how he took his two wickets against Punjab, mentioning that Pant had to be credited for at least one of his scalps.
Yadav revealed that Pant had constantly been asking him to come and bowl around the wicket, but the spinner wasn’t interested. However, he listened to his captain, and as a result, Yadav got the wicket of Nathan Ellis. Yadav credited Pant for the constant backing, which gave him huge confidence.
“The second wicket was due to Rishabh telling to bowl from round the wicket. To be very honest, I have got plenty of confidence this season, and I am also mentally clear with my role. I just focus on my line and length and not on what the batter is going to do,” said Yadav.
“I am enjoying my bowling after a long time, and the credit goes to Rishabh for backing me. That gives a lot of confidence for a bowler, and that is a plus point for us,” he added.
Yadav picked up two wickets for 24 runs in his quota of 4 overs, helping DC to pack PBKS for just 115 – the lowest total this season. In response, the Capitals chased down the target in 10.3 overs, with nine wickets in hand.
