IPL 2022: Bowling coach Shane Bond reveals the real reason behind Mumbai Indians’ hat-trick of defeats

Mumbai Indians (MI) have started quite poorly in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The five-time champions have lost their first three games to remain pointless in the tournament so far. MI lost their opening game by four wickets against Delhi Capitals (DC) before suffering a 23-run and five-wicket defeat from Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), respectively.

But what exactly has gone wrong with Mumbai is the burning question among all the admirers of the cash-rich league. Well, MI’s bowling coach Shane Bond has shared his thoughts on the red-hot topic and revealed the reason behind Mumbai’s disappointing start in the fifteenth season of the lucrative league.

Bond reckoned the bowling unit leaking too many runs in crunch situations is one of the main reasons why MI have failed to register their first win of the tournament. Notably, in all the three defeats the Rohit Sharma-led side has experienced, there were moments where MI were in the commanding position before things slipped out of hands.

“It’s been a real mixed bag from us, I suppose from a bowling unit. You look at the last game; the first ten overs were fantastic. We had a couple of overs that got away from us. It’s been a little bit of a pattern for us, that we’ve done some really good stuff, we’ve taken out a number of the big players exactly how we thought we would – but when the game’s been in the balance, we’ve gone for some overs of 20-plus. And when you go for overs of 20-plus, then you end up losing matches,” said Bond as quoted by Zee News.

The former New Zealand speedster felt if MI could stick to the plans under pressure, then fans could expect a good turnaround of things.

“It’s a simple fix, really. If we can stick to our plans and stick to the areas we want to bowl when the pressure comes on, then I’ll think you’ll see a turnaround,” added Bond.
