Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant had to suffer a double blow on Thursday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After losing the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets, skipper Pant was also fined for maintaining the slow over-rate.
Pant was fined INR 12 lakh after failing to complete the quota of overs in the specified time limit at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, Pant is the third skipper to be fined for maintaining the slow-over rate in the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league. Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Kane Williamson and Mumbai Indians (MI) leader Rohit Sharma have also been fined for a similar offence.
“The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7,” said IPL in an official release.
“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined ₹12 lakhs,” the release added.
When it comes to the match, Lucknow registered a victory by six wickets after Quinton de Kock helped his side chase down the 150-run target. De Kock starred with the bat, scoring a brilliant 80-run knock from just 52 deliveries, with the help of 11 boundaries, including a couple of sixes.
“When the dew is like that, you can’t be complaining, as a batting unit, we were 10-15 short, at the end, Avesh and Holder pulled it back, credit to them. We were talking about giving 100% till the last ball of the 40th over, no matter what happens [on his chat to the team before the start of the 2nd innings]. The powerplay was fine, we didn’t get any wicket, our spin attack did well in the middle overs, but in the end, we were 10-15 short,” said Pant after the match.
