Former India opener Virender Sehwag is known for his witty comments on social media. He often entertain fans with his brilliant sense of humour. But, his recent tweet containing the word ‘vada pav’ did not go down well with the fans of Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma.

It all happened after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) thrashed the five-time champions by five wickets at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Wednesday.

KKR’s Pat Cummins took MI bowlers to the cleaners, smashing 56* off just 15 deliveries, laced with 4 hours and 6 humungous sixes. During the process, Cummins also hit the joint-fastest fifty in the history of IPL.

Sehwag applauded Cummins for his firepower knock, referring to Mumbai’s loved snack ‘vada pav’, stating it was like snatching the vada pav from the MI players. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Sehwag wrote, “Moonh se nivala cheen liya, sorry vada pav cheen liya. Pat Cummins, one of the most insane display of clean hitting, 15 ball 56.”

Sehwag’s tweet created controversy as Rohit’s fans criticised the ex-cricketer for making this reference. However, just a few hours later, the Najafgarh-based cricketer issued a clarification, urging the fans of MI captain to calm down.

Sehwag reckoned that the Vada Pav reference is for Mumbai – a city that loves Vada Pav – and he is even a bigger fan of Rohit’s batting. “The Vada Pav reference is for Mumbai, a city which thrives on Vada Pav. Rohit fans thanda lo, I am a bigger fan of his batting much more than most of you guys,” wrote Viru.
