Ravichandran Ashwin provided Rajasthan Royals (RR) a massive breakthrough in their high-scoring thriller against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Monday. Ashwin came up with a dream delivery to send back dangerous Andre Russell for a golden duck.
While Yuzvendra Chahal made headlines for his match-winning fifer, including a hat-trick in the 17th over, it was Ashwin who lit up Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium when he cleaned up Russell with a sensational ‘carrom’ ball.
Russell came in the middle when KKR were on track to chase down their massive target of 218, but the ace spinner outfoxed the Caribbean giant with an absolute jaffa. It all happened during the 14th over of KKR’s innings when Ashwin bowled a good length ball.
Russell attempted a forward defence, but the white leather deviated slightly and went past his bat to shatter the stumps. The Chennai-born off-spinner was pumped up after removing Russell for a golden duck as he went on a sprint to celebrate the prized scalp.

Ashwin eventually returned with figures of 1/38 in his four overs before Chahal sent shockwaves to the KKR camp with his outstanding 17th over. The leggie turned the game on its head, finishing with sensational figures of 5/40 in his quota of 4 overs.
“I had to take wickets in this match to change the result. I worked on my bowling. I spoke to the coaches and the skipper. I was thinking of a googly, but then I didn’t want to take a chance. Would have been happy with a dot ball as well on my hat-trick ball,” said Chahal after the match.
