Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a horrible start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign after losing four consecutive games.
The Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK are getting ready to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their fifth game of the fifteenth season on Tuesday (April 12). However, ahead of the South Indian derby, the Super Kings have received a major setback regarding their star all-rounder Deepak Chahar.
According to a report in the Times of India, a back injury has ended all the chances of Chahar playing in IPL 2022. CSK, who are placed at the bottom of the points table, had earlier claimed that their INR 14 crore buy would be fit before the second week of April. But, it is now reported that Chahar has suffered a back injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Notably, the Agra-based cricketer has been at the NCA for more than a month now, recovering from the quadricep tear he picked during India’s T20I series against West Indies in February earlier this year.
Talking about CSK, they would be aiming to come back to winning ways after the horror start. While many fans and experts have opined that the absence of MS Dhoni as CSK captain is the real reason behind the team’s struggles, batting coach Michael Hussey has indicated that Jadeja and MSD are in regular touch regarding the tactics and strategies, and every member of the four-time IPL champions is behind the new skipper.
“Yeah, it (making Jadeja skipper) is a big change. Obviously, MS Dhoni was the captain for such a long period of time, and he has done an amazing job. But the great thing is that he is still here to help Jadeja along the way in his first year as captain. So, I know that Jadeja and MSD are talking almost every day about captaincy, about tactics and how leadership works along with Stephen Fleming, the coach, and to try and make the transition as smooth as possible,” Hussey had said, as quoted by Zee News.
