Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson has shared his analysis regarding Mumbai Indians’ (MI) decimal run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led side is the only team in without a win so far despite playing five games in the fifteenth season of the tournament. The Mumbai-based franchise is the most successful IPL team, having won the title for as many as five times, but their struggle this year has surprised a lot of the experts as well as the fans.

Watson, meanwhile, has tried to decode what has gone wrong with the five-time champions in the ongoing edition. The Western Australian reckoned that one of the primary reasons behind MI’s poor run is how they finished the players’ auction, held earlier this year.

Watson opined that MI has spent too much on Ishan Kishan, who was the most expensive buy in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

For the unversed, Kishan was bought by the Ambanis for INR 15.25 crore.

Watson further added that picking up Jofra Archer, who hasn’t played for a while and is doubtful of making a comeback anytime soon, was not a good move either.

“There are not too many teams really dominating. It hasn’t surprised me that Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the table because they had a shocking auction,” said Watson in his recent interview with ‘The Grade Cricketer’.

“Like, spending so much money on Ishan Kishan, who’s a very talented, skilful player, but he’s not worth blowing nearly a whole salary on and then going [for] Jofra Archer as well, not knowing whether he’s going to come back in,” the Queenslander concluded.
