Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has given his verdict over the much-talked-about poor form of two superstars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Runs have dried up for both Kohli and Rohit as the duo is going through a rough patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Kohli and Rohit’s poor form with the bat has become a major talking point, with many former and current cricketers coming up with suggestions and having their say on the red-hot topic. The latest to join the bandwagon is the current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Ganguly.
Notably, former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Kohli has scored only 128 runs from nine matches at a dreadful average of 16. Similarly, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, Rohit, has only managed to score 153 runs from eight matches at a horrible average of 19.13.
Speaking about the two of the biggest stars in Indian cricket, Ganguly backed both Kohli and Rohit to make a comeback, terming the pair as great players. In an interview with News 18, Ganguly said: “They (Rohit and Kohli) are great players, and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head, but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player.”
Ganguly spoke about the ongoing fifteenth season of the cash-rich league, praising the two new franchises – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – that he has been impressed by the newcomers. He also lauded Umran Malik, Umesh Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed for their high-class performances this edition.
“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching [the IPL]. Any team can win, and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – are doing well. Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav, too, has bowled well, and so has Khaleel Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,” added Ganguly.
