In Match 40 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a massive target of 196, Gujarat started pretty well as Shubman Gill, and Wriddhiman Saha added 69 runs for the opening wicket. Before the pair could go further, Umran Malik destroyed the GT batting order with his fiery pace.

Malik went on to take a sensational five-wicket haul and kept Sunrisers’ dominance over Gujarat. The right-armer removed both the openers before dismissing the likes of Hardik Pandya (10), David Miller (17), and Abhinav Manohar (0).

Just as the match was slipping out of GT’s hands, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan pulled out a miraculous effort to take their side home. Tewatia with an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls and Rashid with an undefeated 31 from 11 deliveries helped GT register a thrilling win by five wickets.

Earlier, Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram propelled SRh to a big total after the early blows. The pair formed a scintillating partnership of 96 runs for the third wicket to provide a solid foundation. Alzarri Joseph broke the vital stand by cleaning up Abhishek for a well-made 65 off 42 balls, with the help of nine boundaries, including three sixes.

Similarly, Markram also shined with the bat smashing his third half-century this season. The right-handed batter scored 56 from 40 deliveries, including five boundaries. Tailender Shashank Singh provided a late blitz with a quickfire 6-ball 25 to help SRH post 195/6 in 20 overs.
