Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 38 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

Chasing the huge target of 189, CSK had a terrible start after losing three wickets for just 40 runs inside the powerplay. Before Punjab could capitalise further, the pair of Ambati Rayudu and Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to calm things down.

The duo added 49 runs for the fourth wicket before Kagiso Rabada dismissed Gaikwad (30) to reduce CSK to 89/4 in 12.3 overs. Rayudu, however, continued the attack and kept the run-rate high to keep CSK fans’ hopes alive.

The right-handed batter took the game deep and smashed 78 off 39 deliveries, including seven fours and six maximums, before Rabada yet again came to PBKS’ rescue, dismissing Rayudu in the 18th over. Eventually, PBKS restricted the Super Kings at 176/6 to win the contest by 11 runs.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan shined with the bat to help Punjab pile up a massive total. The explosive left-handed batter smashed an unbeaten 88 from 59 deliveries, with the help of nine fours and a couple of sixes.

Apart from Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa chipped in with a valuable contribution of 42 off 32 balls as Punjab posted 187/4 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. For CSK, Dwayne Bravo picked up two wickets for 42 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
