In the 20th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by three runs at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Chasing 166, Lucknow had a terrible start losing captain KL Rahul (0) and Krishnappa Gowtham (0) for golden ducks in the first two deliveries bowled by Trent Boult. Soon, Lucknow lost Jason Holder (8) when the team’s score read 14 in 3.3 overs.

Quinton de Kock (39), Deepak Hooda (25) and Krunal Pandya (22) made some valuable contributions to take the game deep. Marcus Stoinis (38 not out) provided some late blitz to push Lucknow an inch closer to victory and bring down the equation to 15 needed off the final over.

However, debutant Kuldeep Sen showed nerves of steel and only gave away 11 runs to help the Royals win the contest by three runs.

Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer, with a blistering knock, powered Rajasthan to a respectable total. The explosive Caribbean batter smashed LSG bowlers in the latter half to put RR in a good position.

Hetmyer smashed an unbeaten 59 from just 36 deliveries, including one four and 6 humungous sixes. Apart from Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin chipped in with a valuable 28 off 23 to help the Royals post 165/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
