Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally opened their account in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Mumbai’s Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on Tuesday.
Chasing a massive target of 217, RCB never looked like in any momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shahbaz Ahmed with 41 off 27 deliveries and Dinesh Karthik with a quickfire 18-ball 34 did raise some hopes but it wasn’t enough as RCB could only manage to reach 193/9 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 23 runs.
Earlier, Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa were completely merciless against the RCB bowling attack, hitting them all around the park. The pair took RCB bowlers to the cleaners and went on to add a dominant stand of 165 runs for the third wicket after CSK were struggling at 36/2.
Uthappa smashed 88 runs off 50 balls with the help of 13 boundaries, including nine humungous sixes. Similarly, Dube stayed undefeated and missed out on what could be his maiden IPL century by just five runs. The aspiring all-rounder scored 95 from just 46 deliveries, including five fours and eight gigantic sixes.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
DY Patil has always been a wonderful track to bat on. Having said that, this has been some fabulous hitting by @robbieuthappa & @IamShivamDube.
Controlled aggression at its best.#CSKvRCB

58 runs in 4 overs in a middle phase there, a result of two good batters getting the match ups right and playing to their strengths 👌🏽 Smart hitting from @robbieuthappa and @IamShivamDube 👏🏽 #RCBvCSK #IPL2022

Incredible from Robin and Dubey. First 10 overs for 60. The next 10 for 167. That’s the period when Harshal Patel operates…how dearly was he missed by the #RCB

Call it trash bowling or whatever you want, but this has been some innings from Shivam Dube! Took complete advantage of the full lengths RCB kept bowling at him! Top Knock!#CSKvRCB

This victory for #CSK meant that Ravindra Jadeja has finally won his first #IPL game as captain after losing his first four.
Now only he and Aaron Finch (for Pune Warriors in 2013) have lost their first four games as IPL captain.#IPL2022 #CSKvsRCB #RCBvCSK— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) April 12, 2022
