In the 10th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday.

Chasing 172, the Capitals had a terrible start, losing their top three batters – Tim Seifert (3), Prithvi Shaw (10), and Mandeep Singh (18) – cheaply when the team’s score read 34 in 4.5 overs.

Then, captain Rishabh Pant and middle-order batter Lalit Yadav tried to steady the ship. The pair stitched a vital stand of 61 runs for the fourth wicket before Lalit (25) met an unfortunate run-out in the 12th over.

The dismissal of Lalit opened floodgates as soon Pant (43), and Axar Patel (8) became the victims of Lockie Ferguson to get reduced to 126/6 in 14.5 overs. DC kept losing wickets from thereon only to reach 157/9, losing the contest by 14 runs.

Earlier, Shubman Gill starred with the willow for Gujarat to take his team towards a competitive total. Gill smoked 10 boundaries, including four sixes, to score a tremendous 84 from 46 deliveries.

The swashbuckling opener formed a crucial 65 runs partnership with captain Hardik Pandya, who contributed 31 off 27 balls. David Miller stayed unbeaten on 20 from 15 deliveries to help Gujarat reach 171/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman bagged a three-wicket haul while conceding 23 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Another left-armer, Khaleel Ahmed, picked up a couple of scalps but ended up giving away 34 runs in 4 overs.
