The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has updated the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming first Test against Sri Lanka by including middle-order batter Mosaddek Hossain in the outfit.

Not so long ago, Nayeem Hasan made it to the squad in place of the injured Mehedy Hasan, but the purpose of adding Mossadek was done in order to strengthen the batting unit.

“Mossadek was injured after playing two first-class games, so he could not play either in the National Cricket League or the Bangladesh Cricket League (the first-class competitions). We have included him as we feel if we play four bowlers, then we might need someone who can bat down the order,” said Habibul Bashar, a member of the senior men’s team’s selection panel, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Notably, the Sri Lankan team will arrive in Bangladesh on May 8 for the two-match series, which is also a part of the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship. The tourists will play a two-day practice match at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram on May 10-11.

The series opener will start on May 15 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, while the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka will host the second and final Test from May 23.

Here is the updated Bangladesh squad for Sri Lanka Tests:

Mominul Haque Showrab (Captain), Tamim Iqbal Khan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Kumar Das, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Shohidul Islam, Shoriful Islam (subject to fitness), Mosaddek Hossain Saikat.
