Legendary Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds has passed away in a car crash, confirmed Cricket Australia on Sunday. According to reports, Symonds was involved in a single-car accident outside Townsville in Queensland state on Saturday night.
It was indeed a shocking news, especially for Australian cricket fans, as Symonds’ fatal crash comes just months after the sudden deaths of fellow Australian greats Shane Warne and Rod Marsh, who both died unexpectedly from heart attacks.
No wonder the tragic death of Symonds, aged 46, has hit the cricket community hard, and a host of players – past and present – took to social media to express their sadness, admiration and sympathies.
Former Aussie captain and Symonds’ teammate Adam Gilchrist expressed his disappointment and wrote: “Think of your most loyal, fun, loving friend who would do anything for you. That’s Roy”

South African great Jonty Rhodes penned down a heartwarming message while paying rich tributes to Symonds.
“Have had the privilege to work with some “big names” in the IPL, as well as a couple of “big characters “. Andrew Symmonds was a fierce competitor and generous teammate. Arguably the greatest all-round fielder ever, on top of his contribution with both bat n ball. #RIPRoy,” tweeted Rhodes.
