Legendary Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds has passed away in a car crash, confirmed Cricket Australia on Sunday. According to reports, Symonds was involved in a single-car accident outside Townsville in Queensland state on Saturday night.

It was indeed a shocking news, especially for Australian cricket fans, as Symonds’ fatal crash comes just months after the sudden deaths of fellow Australian greats Shane Warne and Rod Marsh, who both died unexpectedly from heart attacks.

No wonder the tragic death of Symonds, aged 46, has hit the cricket community hard, and a host of players – past and present – took to social media to express their sadness, admiration and sympathies.

Former Aussie captain and Symonds’ teammate Adam Gilchrist expressed his disappointment and wrote: “Think of your most loyal, fun, loving friend who would do anything for you. That’s Roy”

Indian spin legend Harbhajan Singh paid his tributes to the Queenslander. He took to Twitter and wrote: “Shocked to hear about the sudden demise of Andrew Symonds. Gone too soon. Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends. Prayers for the departed soul #RIPSymonds.”

Former Australian international Darren Lehmann expressed his shock and wrote: “Look after yourself up there, great man, I am 💔, loved him so much, and our thoughts are with the family at this time. Hug your loved ones xx #RIPRoy.”

South African great Jonty Rhodes penned down a heartwarming message while paying rich tributes to Symonds.

“Have had the privilege to work with some “big names” in the IPL, as well as a couple of “big characters “. Andrew Symmonds was a fierce competitor and generous teammate. Arguably the greatest all-round fielder ever, on top of his contribution with both bat n ball. #RIPRoy,” tweeted Rhodes.
