Former India opener Virender Sehwag has come up with a piece of advice for Rishabh Pant in order to improve the latter’s explosive batting. Sehwag reckoned that the Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper needs to find the right mix between batting responsibly and scoring runs at a quick pace in the upcoming games of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Sehwag was of the opinion that Pant is either batting way too slowly, which is against his natural style of play or getting out too soon in the desperation to score some quickfire runs. Notably, the left-handed batter has been playing useful knocks for his team in the fifteenth season but has not been able to cross the fifty-run mark. In nine matches so far, Pant has scored 234 runs at a strike rate of 149.04.
Sehwag observed that when Pant bats with extra responsibility, his strike rate gets hit badly, but when the DC skipper tries to go for the full monty, he ends up getting out soon. The cricketer-turned-commentator felt that Pant should bat till the end and must not carry any baggage as it eventually impacts his team.
“Yes, Pant should play with a bit of responsibility. But when he does that, the strike rate falls. On the other hand, when he is playing freely, he gets out. He needs to find the right balance wherein he is able to play freely while batting till the end. Pant must not carry any baggage and play like the Pant of old. A run-a-ball 40 doesn’t suit Pant and doesn’t take the team anywhere,” Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz ahead of DC’s match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
