Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a massive blow as their frontline pacer Pat Cummins has left the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to a minor hip injury. As the Knight Riders are looking unlikely to book birth in the playoffs, the right-armer has decided to step back and get his body right.
As reported by Cricket.com.au, Cummins is heading back home to Sydney to start recovery from the injury and is expected to be fit in time for Australia’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Cummins is part of the ODI and Test team for the Lanka tour.
The New South Wales speedster played five games for KKR this season, in which he picked up seven wickets, including 3/22 against Mumbai Indians (MI). He scored 63 runs which also featured his joint-fastest fifty in the tournament’s history.
Though Cummins had already been rested from the T20I leg of the Sri Lanka tour, his responsibility as Test captain and new-ball bowler across formats makes it essential that he remains fit for the forthcoming major international projects.
Notably, after the Sri Lanka tour, Australia will defend their T20 crown on home soil at T20 World Cup later this year before a five-Test home summer, a Test tour of India and an away Ashes campaign.
