Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 61 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by 54 runs in Pune on Saturday.

Chasing 178, the Sunrisers never really got the momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The 2016 IPL winners only managed to reach 123/8 in 20 overs, losing the contest by a big margin of 54 runs.

Opener Abhishek Sharma was the only batter who showed some fightback with 43 off 28 balls with the help of six boundaries before Varun Chakravarthy got rid of him. For the two-time champions, Andre Russell bagged three wickets for 22 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Earlier, the Knight Riders were in a spot of bother losing half their side for just 94 in 11.3 overs before Russell’s counter-attacking knock took his side to a competitive 177/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Russell, along with Sam Billings, added 63 runs for the sixth wicket to stabilise the innings. The Caribbean giant smashed an unbeaten 49 runs off 28 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries, including four sixes. Similarly, Billings scored a crucial 34 off 29 balls, including three fours and a six.

For the Sunrisers, Umran Malik was the star with the ball, taking a brilliant three-wicket haul while conceding 33 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
