In the 63rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 24 runs at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Chasing 179, Lucknow had a terrible start losing their three wickets for 29 runs inside the powerplay. Before the Royals could capitalise further, the pair of Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya calmed down the scenes and tried to steady the innings.

Both Deepak and Krunal kept the scoreboard moving and hopes alive for LSG fans. The duo went on to form a vital partnership of 65 runs for the fourth wicket to cruise through.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin came to the rescue for RR as he broke the stand by removing Krunal for 25. Hooda, meanwhile, smashed a brilliant half-century, but the dismissal of Krunal opened the floodgates as the Royals kept losing wickets.

Soon, Deepak was outfoxed by Yuzvendra Chahal for a well-made 59 runs. Eventually, the Royals could only manage to reach 154/8 in 20 overs to lose the contest by 24 runs.

Earlier, handy contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal (41 off 29), Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 18), and Sanju Samson (32 off 24) took Rajasthan to a competitive total of 178/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Apart from the batting trio, Riyan Parag (19), Trent Boult (17) and James Neesham (14) also chipped in in the later stages to make sure the Royals breached the 170-run benchmark. For Lucknow, spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked up a couple of wickets for 31 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
