Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second and final Test by 10 wickets to take the two-match series 1-0 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.

Fast bowler Asitha Fernando and the senior batting duo of Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal were the chief architects behind Sri Lanka’s big win.

Replying to Bangladesh’s first innings score of 365, Sri Lanka took command by posting 506. Mathews and Chandimal shined with the bat, smashing their respective centuries. While Mathews remained unbeaten on 145, the Chandimal hit 124.

Lankan bowlers then tightened their grip on the match on Thursday when they reduced the hosts to 23-4, with the Islanders eyeing an innings victory on the final day. But gritty half-centuries from Liton Das (52) and Shakib Al Hasan (58) prevented that.

However, Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 169, to give the visitors only 29 runs to win the contest, which the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side did in three overs. Fernando, who claimed a 4-fer in the first innings, continued from where he left and went on to claim six wickets in the second innings, making it a match haul of 10 wickets.

Brief Scores:

Bangladesh 365 & 169 (Shakib 58, Litton 52; Fernando 6/51, Rajitha 2/40) lost to Sri Lanka 506 & 29-0 by 10 wickets.
