In the 60th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 54 runs at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Chasing the massive target of 210, the Challengers got off to a flyer with openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis adding 31 runs in the first three overs. However, then PBKS made a comeback picking up three wickets in quick succession to reduce RCB to 40/3 in 5 overs.

Glenn Maxwell (35) and Rajat Patidar (26) added 64 runs for the fourth wicket to give some hope to RCB fans. As the duo looked all set to cruise through, the Punjab bowlers yet again came back and removed the pair to take control of the proceedings.

The Challengers never really got the recovery from there on as PBKS restricted them at 155/9 to win the contest by 54 runs.

Earlier, explosive half-centuries by the English duo of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone helped Punjab Kings post a massive total of 209/9 on the board in their assigned 20 overs. Bairstow scored a brilliant 66 off 29 balls with the help of 11 boundaries, including seven sixes.

Similarly, power-hitter Livingstone smashed a tremendous 70 from 42 deliveries, including 5 fours and 4 maximums. Despite the massive total, RCB pacer Harshal Patel shined with the ball, taking a sensational 4-wicket haul for 34 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
