Skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum‘s stint, started off on a spectacular note as England secured a clean sweep over the world champions New Zealand after winning the third and final Test by seven wickets at Headingley in Leeds on Monday.

The remarkable victory also marked England’s first series win since January 2021, having lost to India (1-3), New Zealand (0-1), Australia (0-4), and West Indies (0-1) in 2021-22. Stokes heaped praises on his team’s aggressive approach, especially on the final day of the 3rd Test. Notably, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root formed an unbeaten 111-run stand in just 14.3 overs, giving clear indications about the mindset of the English side.

“When I took over this job, it was more than results for me. It was about changing the mindset of the lads towards Test cricket, about having fun and enjoying the fact that you’re out there representing your country, and the results look after itself. But to say that we’ve done it so quickly is just unbelievable,” said Stokes after the match.

“I can only do so much, so I’ve got to show a huge amount of credit to Brendon in the way that he’s come in and influenced this group. The backroom staff and everyone else has played a part in this series, as well, they’ve just been absolutely phenomenal. To walk away with a 3-0 series win over the best team in the world is a pretty special start. I’ve got to show a huge amount of testament to the team over these three games. They’ve been absolutely phenomenal,” he added.
