In the last couple of years, Rishabh Pant has added new dynamics into his game and has excelled both as a batter and a keeper. He is currently the No.1 choice for the wicketkeeper’s spot in the Indian cricket team across the three formats.

Pant’s heroics in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 changed his image forever as he became the fan favourite in cricketing world. No wonder, the wicketkeeper-batter was picked as the vice-captain of India in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, starting on Thursday.

Ahead of the white-ball battle against the Proteas, Pant was quizzed about the three qualities one should have to become a good wicketkeeper-batsman. The 24-year-old reckoned that a wicketkeeper needs to be acrobatic as it helps in different conditions. Pant mentioned that watching the ball till the end is also quite essential to bring more stability in catching behind the wickets.

“I think one quality would be, you keep yourself agile because in wicketkeeping you do a different type of conditions. So if you are agile enough, that’s going to help a wicketkeeper,” Pant said in a podcast on SGTV.

“Second thing, watch the ball till the end. So, sometimes what happens as a wicketkeeper is we tend to know that the ball is coming, and we become relaxed. So, till the time you catch the ball, you should be watch it,” he added.

When it comes to the third quality, the Roorkee-born cricketer suggested that one should be disciplined and keep working hard in order to keep improving the technique.

“And the third one is – be disciplined and keep working on your techniques. Everyone has a different technique, but at the same time, if you can come closer to the base, that is going to help everyone,” Pant added further.
