After bowlers dominated the opening day in the ongoing first Test between England and New Zealand at Lords Cricket Ground in London, batters put up a good show on the second day of the match. The pair of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell shined with the willow to put the visitors in control of the proceedings.

New Zealand were again in a spot of bother having lost four wickets for just 56 in their second innings. However, Mitchell and Blundell came to the rescue and went on to stitch an unbeaten 180-run partnership for the fifth wicket to put Black Caps on top. At stumps on Day 2, Mitchell and Blundell were batting on 97 and 90, respectively, as New Zealand managed to take a massive 227-run lead heading into Day 3.

Earlier, England resumed their overnight score of 116/7 and only managed to take a narrow 9-run lead as they were bowled out for 141.
