India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women in the second T20I by five wickets to take the unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur lit up the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday with her all-round show. Harmanpreet picked up a crucial wicket of Sri Lanka opener Vishmi Gunaratne (45) before shining with the bat to take the team home.

The hosts, after opting to bat first, went off to a flying start thanks to Gunaratne and skipper Chamari Athapaththu. The pair added 87 runs for the opening wicket in 13.5 overs before Pooja Vastrakar broke the stand by dismissing Athapaththu for a well-made 43.

The dismissal of Athapaththu opened the flood gates as Sri Lanka could only manage to reach 120/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from the openers, no other batter could score in double figures. Deepti Sharma picked up a couple of wickets for 34 runs in her quota of 4 overs.

In response, India Women chased down the target in 19.1 overs with five wickets in hand. Opener Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet starred with the willow to help the tourists seal the series.

Mandhana scored 39 off 34 deliveries, with the help of eight boundaries, while Harmanpreet stayed unbeaten on 31 off 32 balls. For the home team, Inoka Ranaweera bagged a couple of scalps for 18 runs in her quota of 4 overs.
