Former India skipper Rahul Dravid has shared an interesting aspect regarding his role as the head coach of ‘Men in Blue’. Dravid said he did not expect to work with as many as six different captains early in his stint.

Speaking ahead of the fifth and final T20I of the recently-concluded series against South Africa, Dravid said it has been a good challenge for him, especially when it comes to workload management in the Covid-19 times.

Notably, Dravid started his stint as head coach with Rohit Sharma at the helm during the home series against New Zealand last year. Apart from Rohit, Dravid has worked with the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shikhar Dhawan (in Sri Lanka last year). While Pant has led India for the first time in the battle against the Proteas, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to captain the team in India’s upcoming tour of Ireland.

“Journey as head coach been challenging saw 6 captains in last 8 months, which actually wasn’t the plan when I started, but it’s the nature of the number of games we are playing, it’s the nature of Covid, so I have had to work with quite a few people, it has been great fun. A lot of other guys have got an opportunity to lead, we have got opportunities to create more leaders in the group. We have constantly strived to get better, we have tried a lot of different people.” said Dravid in the pre-match interaction on Star Sports.

Dravid also heaped praises on the fast bowling crop India has been producing, thanks to tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“It was incredible to see the fast bowling talent we have (during the IPL), especially with few of the bowlers clocking such (fast) speed. A lot of youngsters got an opportunity to showcase their skills, and a lot of them came good, those are really good signs for Indian cricket, exciting times ahead,” added Dravid.
