After the conclusion of the Edgbaston Test between England and India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced the latest Test rankings. England’s Jonny Bairstow and India’s Rishabh Pant were the major gainers in the batting charts.

Notably, Bairstow, who is in the finest form of his career, helped the English side register an unforgettable triumph over India with an unbeaten 114 in the second innings. Bairstow’s splendid batting display assisted England in completing a record-breaking 378-run chase. The right-handed batter, who smashed twin centuries in both essays, has now climbed 11 places to tenth in the Test batting rankings.

Similarly, Pant’s exceptional show with the bat earned him a highest-ever position in the Test batting rankings, moving six places to fifth. The wicketkeeper-batter was India’s crisis man with 146 runs off just 111 balls in the first innings, followed by 57 in the second essay.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli, however, dropped three places to 13th in the batting charts after a string of poor performances. Kohli only managed scores of 11 and 20 against England, failing to get out of his poor patch.

Speaking about the former captain, England’s Joe Root continues to own the top spot thanks to his unbeaten century (142*) in England’s record chase at Edgbaston.
