Bangladesh were off to a great start after registering the crucial win in the opening ODI of the ongoing three-match series at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday. In the contest, which was reduced to 41 overs per side due to wet outfield, the visitors recorded a vital 6-wicket triumph.

Chasing 150, former skipper Mahmudullah shined with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 41 off 69 deliveries with the help of three boundaries, including a six to take Bangladesh home. Captain Tamim Iqbal (33) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (37) also made valuable contributions to Bangladesh’s successful chase.

Earlier, Bangladesh bowlers set up the foundation of the win with the exhibition of brilliant bowling. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan were the pick of the bowlers for the tourists as West Indies could only score 149/9 in 41 overs.

Islam took a remarkable four-wicket haul for 34 runs in eight overs, including a maiden. Similarly, Hasan picked up three scalps while conceding 36 runs in nine overs, including two maidens. For the hosts, Shamarh Brooks was the top scorer with 33 off 66 balls.

Brief Scores:

West Indies 141/9 in 41 overs (Shamarh Brooks 33, Anderson Philip 21*; Shoriful Islam 4/34, Mehidy Hasan 3/36) lost to Bangladesh 142/4 in 31.4 overs (Mahmudullah 41*, Najmul Hossain 37; Gudakesh Motie 1/18) by six wickets.
