Aspiring batter Suryakumar Yadav shined with the bat in the third and final T20I against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Sunday, July 10. The Pune-born batter almost pulled off a miraculous victory with a sensational century in the game.

During India’s massive chase of 216, Surya played a tremendous knock of 117 runs from 55 deliveries and kept the tourists in the game until the penultimate over. His dismissal off Moeen Ali ended India’s hopes of registering a clean sweep over the English side as the hosts eventually won the contest by 17 runs.

Surya, however, impressed one and all with his scintillating knock. He smashed 14 fours and 6 sixes during his breathtaking batting exhibition. After being caught in the deep, Suryakumar got a standing ovation from the local crowd. As the batter was walking back to the pavilion, several England players congratulated him for his innings. The spectators at the Trent Bridge were in complete awe of Surya and applauded him by giving a standing ovation.

India captain Rohit Sharma also praised Surya for his superb knock after the match. Rohit reckoned that SKY has grown from strength to strength and has a variety of shots.

“I thought it was a fantastic chase, although we fell short. We are proud of the fight. Surya was magnificent to watch. I have been watching him for a while now. Loves this format, and has a wide range of shots. He has grown from strength to strength since we got him into the squad,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation.
