South Africa’s batting sensation Rassie van der Dussen on Saturday was ruled out of the third and final Test against England due to a fracture to his left index finger. The South African cricketer sustained the injury while fielding on Day 1 of the recently-concluded second Test against England in Manchester.

Notably, Van der Dussen put up a brave fight alongside Keegan Petersen on the third day at Old Trafford but was dismissed by Ben Stokes after tea as the hosts cruised to an innings win. The 33-year-old will require consultation with a finger specialist to decide further course of action for the injury.

The tourists have named all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as Van der Dussen’s replacement for the third Test beginning on September 8 at the Kia Oval in London. After the loss in the second Test, South Africa have fallen from the top of the standings at ICC World Test Championship.

South Africa Test squad (Updated):

Dean Elgar, Sarel Erwee, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Keegan Petersen, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Lutho Sipamla, Kyle Verreynne, Khaya Zondo, Glenton Stuurman
