Team India defeated West Indies in the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, on Tuesday.

Suryakumar Yadav was the chief architect behind the seven-wicket triumph of the visitors. The right-handed batter demolished Windies bowlers during India’s chase of 165. Suryakumar smashed 8 fours, and 4 stylish sixes in his match-winning 44-ball 76 runs knock.

Shreyas Iyer (24) and Rishabh Pant (33 not out) made a valuable contribution as India chased down the target with seven wickets in hand and one over to spare.

Earlier, the hosts posted 164/5 on the board in 20 overs, courtesy of sensational innings by Kyle Mayers. The batting all-rounder smashed 73 from 50 deliveries, with the help of 12 boundaries, including 4 maximums.

For the tourists, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was yet again impressive with his brilliant bowling. The right-armer picked up a couple of wickets while giving away 35 runs in his quota of 4 overs. All-rounder Hardik Pandya, however, was the least expensive bowler. He went wicketless but conceded only 19 runs in 4 overs.

“Really happy with the way things went. Was important for someone to bat 15-17 overs after Rohit went back inside. We saw yesterday what happened in the second innings. Was important for someone to bat deep and win the game, that’s what I’ve focussed on. Just backed myself and enjoying it,” said Surya after bagging the Player of the Match award.
