The Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh game in the Asia Cup 2022 created a lot of buzz on social media. The thrilling contest went down to the wire, where the Islanders claimed victory by two wickets.

Batting first in the game, Bangladesh scored 183/7 in 20 overs before Sri Lanka breached the target with four balls to spare. Meanwhile, a picture from Sri Lanka’s bowling innings is currently going viral on social media, where their coaching staff can be seen using coded signals for captain Dasun Shanaka.

The approach of Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood and his tactics during the game became a talking point for fans and experts on social media. However, after claiming the thrilling win, Silverwood shared his views about the same and explained the reason behind showing the signals.

Silverwood reckoned that the captain was free not to consider the signals but claimed they were looking to help in the decision-making process.

“There’s no rocket science. They are just suggestions for the captain at what would be a good match at a particular point for a batsman when he is on strike. There are a lot of teams doing it now, it’s just as simple as it is, really. It’s just giving suggestions that the captain can use; it’s not telling him how to captain. It’s just the suggestion from the side,” Silverwood said.

Notably, it isn’t the first time Silverwood has used this approach in a match. Previously, as the head coach of the England cricket team, Silverwood had used the same methodology against different teams.

Coming back to the game, Kusal Mendis was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 60 runs in 37 balls. Captain Shanaka also contributed well with 45 off 33 before Asitha Fernando scored a quickfire 3-ball 10 to take Sri Lanka home.
