Team India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup 2022 due to knee injury. The BCCI press statement that announced Jadeja’s latest injury in right knee did not specify its severity or estimate a recovery window.

The Men in Blue will hope that Jadeja recovers quickly as the T20 World Cup in Australia is now less than two months away. Before the multi-team tournament, India will complete the Asia Cup and play bilateral series at home against Australia and South Africa.

“Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament [Asia Cup 2022]. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team,” BCCI said in a statement on Friday.

Axar Patel replaces Ravindra Jadeja in Asia Cup squad

Axar Patel, who was initially named as a stand-by player in India’s Asia Cup squad, will join the main team as a like-for-like replacement of Jadeja.

The Ahmedabad-born has improved his batting to a great extent in the limited opportunities that he has got this year so far. He played some crucial knocks in the ODI as well as T20I series against the hosts West Indies recently.

India’s revised squad for Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan.

India’s next match is on Sunday, against the winner of ongoing match between Pakistan and Hong Kong.
