India legend Jhulan Goswami has officially confirmed her international retirement after a stellar 20-year-old career. The veteran mentioned that her last international match would be the upcoming third and final ODI against England at Lord’s on Saturday.

Goswami, who debuted against the same opposition back in 2002, revolutionised fast bowling in women’s cricket in India and went on to become an absolute legend of the game. Ahead of the upcoming third ODI, Goswami revealed the biggest regret of her phenomenal career.

The Bengal cricketer said she is glad to represent the Women in Blue in two World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017 but not clinching the trophy will be her ‘only regret’.

“I have played two World Cup finals but couldn’t win the trophy. That remains my only regret because you prepare for a World Cup for four years. There is a lot of hard work. For every cricketer, it is a dream-come-true moment to win a World Cup,” said Goswami in the virtual presser ahead of the final ODI against England.

Notably, India made it to the final of the 2005 and 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup but couldn’t beat Australia and England, respectively. In recent times, India have missed the services of their talisman due to consistent injuries, and Goswami said this was the main reason to call it a day.

“(For the) last two years, I was thinking every series (that I played) is my last series because of injuries and ups and downs. After the World Cup (2022) also, I thought maybe the Sri Lanka tour will be my last series, but again I got injured in the last match of the World Cup and couldn’t travel to Sri Lanka. And this is the last ODI series before the T20 World Cup (next year), so why not this series? “ added Goswami.
