Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the Asia Cup final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday to claim their sixth title.

Put to bat first, Sri Lanka were in deep trouble, losing their five wickets for just 58 before Bhanuka Rajapaksa rescued his side. Rajapaksa played a top knock of 71 runs from just 45 deliveries to inspire the Lankans to post a target of 171.

Apart from the left-handed batter, Hasaranga also played a quick knock of 36 runs off 21 balls. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf took three wickets, while Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, and Iftikhar Ahmed took one scalp each.

In the chase of 171, Pakistan couldn’t manage to form a decent partnership and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan smashed 55 off 49 balls with the help of five boundaries, but he didn’t get any support from other batters as the Men in Green were bundled out for 147, losing the grand finale by 23 runs.

A four-wicket haul by Pramod Madushan and a three-wicket over by Wanindu Hasaranga was the eye-catching performances from Sri Lanka while defending 170. Chamika Karunaratne and Maheesh Theekshana scalped two and one wickets, respectively.
