Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Saturday, confirmed the appointment of former West Indies skipper Brian Lara as their new head coach for the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The franchise has decided to part ways with Tom Moody, who was the head coach of the side in the 2022 edition of the tournament, where SRH finished eighth in the points table. Notably, Lara was with Sunrisers in the previous season as their strategic advisor and batting coach.

“Announcement. The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming #IPL seasons.#OrangeArmy,” tweeted SunRisers.

“As his term with us draws to an end, we would like thank Tom for his contributions to SRH. It has been a much-cherished journey over the years, and we wish him the very best for future endeavours,” SRH added.

Moody had a successful stint with the Sunrisers between 2013 and 2019 when the Orange Army reached the playoffs five times and also emerged champions in the 2016 edition under David Warner’s captaincy. The Aussie coach then returned to SunRisers in 2021 as director of cricket and was appointed as head coach in the subsequent year.

Moody will now join Desert Vipers, one of the six franchises in the ILT20 tournament, after being appointed as their Director of Cricket. The competition is scheduled to be held in the UAE in January next year.
