Sophie Ecclestone – the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler – has joined Sydney Sixers for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). It’s the first time Ecclestone has signed for any team in the WBBL, and now, she is the second English player after Danni Wyatt (Brisbane Heat) to play in the forthcoming season.

Since her international debut in 2016, Ecclestone has attained the reputation of a premier T20I bowler as she has taken 78 wickets in just 58 matches.

“They play in my favourite colour – so that’s a great start. Obviously, they have great players with the likes of [Alyssa] Healy, [Ellyse] Perry and [Ash] Gardner, so I’m really excited about going over and playing with them,” said Ecclestone as quoted by Sydneysixers.com.au.

“It’ll be nice not to have to bowl at them… it’s nice they’ll be on my team for once! I’m excited [by the thought of getting] to know them and to start training with them and play in the same team,” Ecclestone added.

Sydney Sixers’ current squad for WBBL|08:

Jade Allen, Nicole Bolton, Maitlan Brown, Erin Burns, Stella Campbell, Lauren Cheatle, Sophie Ecclestone (Eng), Ash Gardner, Angie Genford, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry (c).
