The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set the ball rolling for next edition of IPL and the mini-auction will take place in the third week of December.

Istanbul and Bengaluru have been shortlisted as the host cities for the mini-auction. Previously, all the IPL auctions happened in India only because some franchises felt that conducting the event abroad would be expensive. However, the recent increase in teams’ revenue and sale of media rights has prompted the IPL Governing Council to consider conducting the auction overseas.

Approximately 650 players are expected to go under the hammer in the bidding process.

It is also learnt that franchises have been asked to submit their list of retained players by November 15. Most teams are likely to keep 15 players and release the rest for them before entering the auction with at least INR 10 crore in their kitty, if not more.

The 2022 season was the first one since 2011 that saw ten teams with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) making their IPL debut. The 2023 season which will be the sixteenth edition of the world’s biggest T20 league is expected to begin in the last week of March. The inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL is also set to take place in March-April next year.
