Team India bulldozed South Africa in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to seal the series on Tuesday, October 11.

Bowling first, India didn’t give any breathing space to South African batters as the tourists struggled for every single run. Kuldeep Yadav led the Indian bowling attack with his sublime performance. The left-armer registered figures of 4 for 18 in 4.1 overs to help India pack South Africa for just 99 runs.

This was the second time in the year 2022 that the Proteas were dismissed under 100 runs. Overall, it was South Africa’s fourth-lowest total in the 50-over format.

Apart from Kuldeep, Washington Sundar (2/15), Shahbaz Ahmed (2/32) and Mohammed Siraj (2/17) also impressed and bagged two wickets each. For the visitors, Heinrich Klaasen was the top scorer with 34 runs from 42 deliveries, including four boundaries.

Lowest totals for South Africa in ODIs:

  • 69 vs Australia, Sydney 1993
  • 83 vs England, Nottingham 2008
  • 83 vs England, Manchester 2022
  • 99 vs India, Delhi 2022
  • Previous lowest vs India: 117 in Nairobi, 1999

In response, the hosts finished the proceedings in 20.1 overs with seven wickets in hand. Opener Shubman Gill almost carried his bat but fell at the last moment and missed out on his well-earned half-century.

Gill scored 49 from 57 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries. The Men in Blue eventually completed the task, with Shreyas Iyer hitting a humungous six. Iyer remained unbeaten at 28 off 23 deliveries.
